We hope by now you have read or heard about the proposed Stormwater Utility that has been under development for the past eighteen months and is now to be considered by the Colchester Selectboard. We believe this Utility is the best approach to abate existing stormwater pollution, protect and preserve our water resources for future generations, create a more equitable funding structure for all property owners, and to address existing failing stormwater systems throughout the community.
Working with the Stormwater Advisory Committee, a citizens’ group, the Town staff developed the Stormwater Utility and a number of educational materials to inform residents about the proposal; these include a searchable database on the Town’s website that shows the current and projected stormwater costs for all properties in Colchester. All of this information can be viewed online at: http://colchestervt.gov/213/Managing-Stormwater
You can also watch a recent LCATV interview with Public Works Director Bryan Osborne and Colchester Planner Karen Purinton: it will help answer your questions regarding the proposed utility. Watch it here: https://youtu.be/RDX1Pz8Ak14
On Tuesday, March 28 Town staff will give a presentation about the Utility at the regular meeting of the Selectboard at the Town Offices, Outer Bay Conference Room, 3rd floor. The meeting begins at 6:30 PM. Residents are encouraged to attend and learn more about the proposed Stormwater Utility plan.
