This July the Town of Colchester will be replacing a major drainage culvert that is failing and undersized on East Road. The project is expected to take 14 days. To ensure the safety of travelers and the contractor there will be a temporary road closure that will prohibit thru traffic on East Road for approximately 7-10 consecutive calendar days (local traffic only will be permitted on either side of the closure). The closure will be located 1 mile north of the Route 2A intersection at the following coordinates: 44°33'23.81"N / 73° 8'14.05"W. Message boards announcing the specific closure dates will be installed one week in advance of the closure--the exact week will be determined as the project approaches. Although a detour will be installed via Austin House Road and Middle Road, we encourage all travelers to use Route 7 during the closure to avoid delays, negative impacts on the residents and excessive wear to these low-volume gravel roads. Stay tuned for additional updates!
This is the first of many water quality improvement projects to be done under the Town's newly adopted Stormwater Utility. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Kevin McAleer, Public Works Project Manager at 264-5639, or firstname.lastname@example.org.
