Schedule Notes

  • The Library will be closing at 5 pm on Wednesday, Nov. 26, and closed Thursday and Friday, Nov. 27 & 28, for Thanksgiving; we will be open normally (9 am-3 pm) on Saturday, Nov. 29.

Would you like to helps us out? The library currently has some openings for volunteers to assist with shelving books. Stop by the library for an application, or more information! You can read about Cris Herrlich, one of our many dedicated volunteers, in this recent Burlington Free Press Article.

Holiday Events in December

Annual Gingerbread House Contest - You can drop off your entry starting Dec. 1; voting starts Dec. 8. Build a tasty gingerbread structure, and bring it to the library for our annual contest. We'll display your creations and every entrant will be eligible for a raffled basket of goodies. Gingerbread kits are welcome, and family entries are very much encouraged. Guidelines and entry forms are available at the library or right here.

Christmas Tree Lighting & Caroling - Sunday, Dec. 7 at 4 pm - Children's crafts at the library; 4:30 pm - Singing with the Colchester Community Chorus; 5 pm - Tree lighting outside. It's that time of year again! Gather for crafts, songs, cocoa, cookies, and lights on the tree. At 4 pm, children can make a holiday craft in the library. Around 4:30 pm, we'll all sing with the Colchester Community Chorus at the Meeting House. The annual tree lighting follows outside around 5 pm. No sign-up required.

Cider & Cookie Week - Dec. 8-12. Stop in for homemade cookies and spicy cider, compliments of library staff.

Sew a Bird! - Dec. 8

Join us for a program as we sew colorful birds out of felt! They can be used to adorn your tree, or given as gifts. Children are welcome, but must be accompanied by an adult. Register at our site.

One-on-One Tutoring

Update - We have a number of openings remaining for Saturdays. Students from the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (Colchester campus) are again tutoring students in reading, math, and science at the library. The program is focused on grades 1-6, but tutoring is available in other grades for certain subjects. There is no fee for the service. You can call us at 264-5660 to sign up, or for more information.
