Seeking Vendors, Musicians, and Volunteers for the Farmers' market!

The Colchester Farmers' Market is gearing up for its fourth season. The market is located on the green in front of Burnham Memorial Library and the Meeting House in Colchester Village, at 898 Main Street. It takes place on Wednesdays, rain or shine, from 4-7 pm. Our 2015 season runs from June 10 to August 26. This is a great opportunity for new vendors just getting started. Produce and prepared foods are especially desirable, but all vendors will be considered. We are offering a new lower rate this season, and an early bird discount. For applications and more information, check out our website here or call the Library at 264-5660.

Intervale Food Hub

Update - the deadline has been extended to May 25. Once again, the library is serving as a pickup site for the Intervale Food Hub. They have a great range of local food subscriptions available for Summer/Fall of 2015. Options include Vermont Vegetable, Omnivore and Vegetarian Packages, and a wide variety of cheese, eggs, fish, and meat. Pickups will be changing to Wednesdays from 4:45-7:45 pm.

The Intervale Food Hub delivers local food to people who live, work, and learn in the greater Burlington area. Our farmers and food makers are at the heart of everything we do, and we work together to offer the best local food available in Vermont, year-round. Eat well, and feel good! The Intervale Food Hub is an enterprise of the Intervale Center, a non-profit dedicated to supporting healthy food, farms, land, and people. Click here for more information.

Summer Reading Buddies - Sign up by June 1

Burnham Library is having sign-ups for the annual Summer Reading Buddies Program. The Reading Buddies Program is designed to give children, who have completed kindergarten through third grade, a chance to practice reading. Reading aloud together helps children to improve their language skills, gain confidence and practice good communication. The older students, or "mentors" (entering grade 6 and up) experience helping a younger child, hone valuable work skills and are able to give back to the community as volunteers. Buddies and mentors get to know each other, form friendships, and have a rewarding, educational and fun time together. Call the library for more information, or sign up here!

Healthy Aging Survey

Are you 60 or over? The United Way of Chittenden County is seeking responses on a survey about healthy aging. Each sumission will be entered in a raffle for a gift card. Survey link

Dungeons & Dragons Night - May 27

Update - The dates have changed from what was originally published. Whether you're new to pen & paper role-playing games, or have been playing since the olden days, join our D&D group for an evening of fun! We play on Wednesday, May 13 & 27, from 5:30-7:45 pm. Players take on invented personas and use cleverness and luck to face challenges, defeat enemies, and save the day. For participants age 14 to adult. E-mail for more information.

Book Sale Donations - Jun. 19-20

To avoid moving thousands of books between locations, the Friends will only be accepting donations the weekend before the sale. The drop-off is located at the high school, and will be open on Friday, June 19 from 12-8 pm, and on Saturday, June 20, from 8 am-2 pm. They are seeking books, CD's, and DVD's in good condition; please no textbooks, encyclopedias, VHS tapes, or books that are moldy or damaged.

Friends of the Library Book Sale - Jun. 26-28

Though it's not till June, we'd like to let people know the details about the annual book sale. It takes place the weekend of June 26-28, at the Colchester High School. Friday (5-8 pm) will be a preview for Friends of the Library members, though you can join at the door. The sale will continue on Saturday (8 am-4 pm), as we offer a variety of books, CD's, and more. On Sunday (10 am-12 pm), we'll have a blow-out sale on remaining items!
