MINUTES OF MEETING-MARCH 13, 2002 - 6:30 P.M.

COLCHESTER MEETING HOUSE

1. Call Meeting to Order

Bill Romond called the meeting to order at 6:35 p.m.

2. Roll Call

Present: Members: Bill Romond, Betty Carvellas, Steve Kruger, Pat Kearny, John Nichols, Rene Mraz-Peterson         Absent: Karen Bates, Moe Germain, Don Sargent
        Others Present: Sam Jackman, Linda Jackman

3. Approval of Minutes - February 13, 2002

Pat Kearny made a Motion to Approve the minutes of February 13, 2002, Steve Kruger seconded the Motion and it Passed.

4. Business

        a. Stone Environmental was selected as managers for the Strategic Plan.

        b. The next steps in the Strategic Plan Work are:

Kick off Meeting will be either, March 18 or 19, 2002 in the morning. Pat Kearny and Steve Kruger can go; also Rene Mraz-Peterson and John Nichols are able to attend on the 18th but not the 19th.

Bill Romond will contact Jason Koornich, Chronicle writer, and give him Rene Mraz-Peterson's name as the contact for articles about the committee.

Betty Carvellas will contact St. Michael's College Biology and Technology Departments to see if they want a part of the plan. (Web Site Development, Public Outreach, etc)

Bill Romond will contact Juri Homziak from the University of Vermont to see if he still wants to be involved in the public outreach process.

Rene Mraz-Peterson will contact Steve Fiske and Jim Price at Colchester High School to see if one can tie in with the new community service requirements for seniors.

        c. A review of the "Stormwater & Water Quality in Chittenden Co.," done by the Chittenden Regional Planning Commission took place. The group believes that the booklet will provide good background information, and will see that Stone Environmental gets a copy.

        d. Other

Renewals to the Journal, "Small Flows", is due.

Eric Perkins, from the EPA contacted Bill Romond. He has the results of the DNA testing. The results will be made available at the Town Office on March 21, 2002 at 8:30 am. Bill Romond and Steve Kruger will attend.

The Lake Champlain Basin Grant Program deadline is April 5, 2002/
Grant types are: Organizational Support: Up to $5,000.
Partnership: Up to $5,000
Field Based Project Up to $20,000.
Requires 25% Non Federal match.

The group discussed possibilities related to the grant. John Nichols will try to draft an application for the Partnership Grant, for Web Site development.

e. Next Meeting Dates: April 3, 2002      April 24, 2002

5. Adjournment

Having no further business to discuss, the Colchester Water Quality Committee adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
