Left Turn Lanes to be Added to US 2 at Clay Point Road Colchester
VTRANS - The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) announced new left turn lanes will be added eastbound and westbound on US 2 in Colchester at the Clay Point Road intersection. According to the contractor’s schedule, the project will run from the week of April 18th through mid-June 2016.
Construction to add the new left turn lanes will include widening US 2 to accommodate for the additional lanes. The widening will occur on US 2 for about ¼ mile on each side of the Clay Point Road intersection while maintaining the right turn off-ramps onto Clay Point Road. Excavation for the widening will occur on the existing shoulders of the road which will be used as travel lanes once the left turn lanes are added. Milling, paving and line striping operations will follow the excavation to bring the project to completion.
Crews expect to start excavating to widen the eastbound shoulder near Clay Point Road late in the week of April 18th and continue to work in this area the week of April 25th.
As part of this project, new traffic warning signs will be installed on US 2 at Bear Trap Road and Cub Road. The new “Watch For Traffic” signs will flash an LED light when they sense traffic approaching US 2 from Bear Trap Road or Cub Road to alert drivers that a vehicle may be entering US 2.
Typical work hours on the project will be between the hours of 6:30 am to 5:00 pm. Saturday work may be necessary to remain on schedule.
Two-way traffic will be maintained as much as possible. Milling and paving operations may require alternating one-way traffic through the ½ mile construction zone. Motorists can expect traffic delays while traveling through the project. Traffic control will be present to maintain traffic flow. Motorists are encouraged to plan for traffic delays accordingly.
Construction updates will be sent out weekly to the media and members of the project stakeholder list. Information will also be available on www.roadworkupdates.com.
