CPD’s Honor Guard will appear on the field just before the 7:10pm game time to present the American flag during the singing of our nation’s anthem. We will post photos to our Facebook (www.facebook.com/ColchesterVTPolice) and Twitter accounts (@colchesterpdvt)!!
In other exciting news, Chief Jennifer Morrison was invited to attend a briefing at the White House this week on implementation of the recommendations made in the "President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing Report." This landmark report was released about a year ago and serves as a road map for police agencies as we navigate some difficult times in American policing. The report contains 59 recommendations, organized into six “pillars”:
1. Building Trust & Legitimacy
2. Policy & Oversight
3. Technology & Social Media
4. Community Policing & Crime Reduction
5. Training & Education
6. Officer Wellness & Safety
The White House briefing was educational and interactive. Chief Morrison, along with several other Vermont chiefs, brought back numerous strategies for turning the report’s recommendations into action in our local communities. At the Selectboard meeting on September 13th, CPD will give an overview of the President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing Report, as well as an update on how the report will help the Colchester community. If you are interested in reading the report and/or the implementation guide, the links are below. Anyone who has questions, comments or suggestions relative to the contents of the report is welcome to contact Chief Morrison by calling (802) 264-5555. If you really want to take a deep dive into the report and its recommendations, schedule a time for coffee and a chat with the Chief!

As summer winds down, please remember that school will be back in session soon. That means many more pedestrians and bicyclists in and around the school zones. Please, slow down and ensure that everyone makes it to their final destination safely! Enjoy the waning days of summer 2016.
