Report: Mill Pond Dam Removal
The historic Mill Pond Dam on Indian Brook in Colchester was constructed ca, 1800 to provide a power source for a lumber mill. Over the years capability was added to mill grain and produce cider. In May 1941 a fire destroyed the mill and several out buildings. They were never rebuilt. The dam fell into disrepair and finally in 2019 the Vermont Natural Resources Council at the invitation of the owner had the dam removed and the stream returned to its riverine condition. The final report of the dam removal includes a detailed history of the mill along with historical maps and photos.
