Library Board of Trustees & Policies
Overview
The Library Trustees work with the Library Director to determine policies to govern library operations, and programs; recruit, interview, and consider candidates for the position of Library Director along with the Town Manager; maintain an ongoing performance appraisal for the Director with the Town Manager; secure adequate funding; assist in the annual budget presentation at budget hearings; and attend Selectboard meetings as necessary. In addition, the Library Trustees ensure and advocate:
- Collection development
- Long-range library planning
- An active marketing program
- Local, state, and federal library laws and stay informed on pending library legislation
- Accurate record keeping at the library and compliance with Freedom of Information regulations
Member terms end in March in staggered years and there are five member seats. The Library Board of Trustees is an elected board. Members are listed in OnBoard and below. Further information can be obtained by contacting Kelly McCagg, Library Director at 802-264-5661.
Meetings
The Board meets on the third Thursday of the month at 4:00 p.m. at the Burnham Memorial Library, 898 Main Street.
Borrowing Policies
- Any Vermont resident may register for free borrowing privileges.
- Circulation Periods:
- 3 weeks - Books
- 2 weeks - New books, and audio/video materials
- 1 week - Periodicals and passes
- Borrowers are financially responsible for damaged and lost library materials.
- There are only overdue fines on e-readers, and passes.
- Items may be reserved or renewed at the library, by phone, or through the online catalog, unless the item is on hold for another patron.
- The library has book drops located at:
- Town Hall (781 Blakely Road)
- Walgreens near the Price Chopper (1184 Prim Road)
- Josh’s House (162 Hegeman Ave. in Fort Ethan Allen)
