Rescue Squad Membership
CRS is a municipal ambulance service licensed by the Vermont Department of Health, with two fully equipped ambulances to provide emergency care and transportation of the sick and injured. Like the majority of rescue squads in Vermont, CRS is staffed primarily by volunteers trained in emergency medicine.
Tell Me More About: Crews
Most squad members are assigned to a set crew, (either a night crew 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM or a day crew 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM) and run duty one shift per week. All members help cover the Saturday day, Saturday night, and Sunday day shift, signing up for at least one shift per month.
Training
Membership applicants are required to have or obtain an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) license. EMTs are then eligible to take the course to become licensed as an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT).
Most training occurs during regularly-assigned crew shifts.CRS also holds squad training on the fourth Wednesday of every month at 7:00 PM; it's a great way to earn training credits and brings the whole squad together so all members get to know one another.

Time Requirements
While we are sensitive to the needs of families, and other responsibilities, Rescue membership requires a fair amount of time that is divided into duty shifts, trainings, meetings, and outreach events. Rescue duty is a serious commitment and all members are expected to be present for scheduled shifts and training.
All new members go through a six-month probationary period during which time they are assigned to a crew with an experienced Crew Captain. This provides the opportunity to build a relationship with the squad. If the member discovers s/he is not "cut out" for Rescue, of course there are no strings attached.
