Digital Collections
The Burnham Memorial Library has several available ways for our patrons to download and stream digital content. Here is an overview of the services we have, as well as links to their pages where you can learn more about getting started. If you experience any trouble, staff are available by phone and email during open hours for assistance.
Green Mountain Library Consortium Collection
Green Mountain Library Consortium (GMLC) is a web service that offers downloadable audiobooks and eBooks to libraries throughout the state. It works through Overdrive, a well known vendor for library downloadables. In its shared catalog, GMLC offers thousands of eBooks and Audiobooks for checkout to library patrons.
How to Access GMLC Content on Mobile Devices
Mobile devices can access the GMLC collection using the Libby app. After installing it, follow the onscreen instructions. When adding a library, search for Burnham Memorial Library and look for the Green Mountain Library Consortium collection. It will then ask for your card number and pin. If you need help connecting your account, please call us at 802-264-5660.
You are able to connect multiple library cards and collections to one Libby account. Your Burnham Library card will also give you access to the Vermont Department of Libraries collection, but it will need to be added separately.
How to Access GMLC Content on the Web
- Go directly to the website of the collection you want to access in your web browser: GMLC
- The dropdown menu will prompt you to 'choose your library' and we are listed as 'Burnham Memorial'.
- Log in with your library card number and pin (password).
- If you need help remembering your pin or are having trouble logging in, please call us at 802-264-5660.
- Once you have logged in, you can download the Overdrive software to your Windows or Mac computer, or to your Android or Apple phone or tablet (including Kindle Fire). For further tutorials and assistance, click Help in the upper right hand corner of their website.
Libby Content on Kindle
Certain Libby books are available to be read on Kindle devices. Please watch the video instructions below to see how it is done.
Hoopla Digital
Hoopla Digital is a media streaming platform that provides a wide variety of content for library patrons. Their available items include eBooks, audiobooks, comics, movies, TV shows, music, and more. Hoopla can be accessed on your mobile devices using their app or through any internet browser. It is also available on certain smart TVs and Roku.
Signing Up
To get started, either open the Hoopla app or go to their website. It will ask for your library card number and pin/password. You will then be asked for your email and to set up a new password for logging in.
Borrowing Items
Each of our Colchester patrons can check out up to 3 titles per month, and all items are immediately available to borrow. No need to wait! Each item has a set borrowing period, after which the item will automatically be returned. You can renew or check out the same title again, but it will count as another one of your borrows for the month.
Borrowing Times
- Audiobooks, Comics, and eBooks: 21 days
- Movies and TV Episodes: 3 days
- Music Albums: 7 days
- Binge Passes: 7 days
There may be some titles with different checkout times depending on the publishers' preferences.
The Palace Project
The Palace Project is a mobile app that allows patrons to stream ebooks and audiobooks from multiple collections. They are a nonprofit platform with the goals of providing equitable access to digital content, protecting patron privacy, and boosting the relationship between libraries and their patrons.
The Palace Project is a division of Lyrasis that partners with the Digital Public Library of America (DPLA). They are funded by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
Signing Up
The Palace Project is available for both Android and Apple devices through the Google Play and Apple stores. The app is not currently available for desktop, Kindle or NOOKs.
After downloading the app, open it and select the Burnham Memorial Library from the list. At this point, you will be able to view all of the items available through our collections. When you try to checkout your first item, the app will prompt you for your card number and pin, which it will then save for future checkouts.
The Palace Project and Overdrive/Libby
While the Palace Project has its own collection of ebook and audiobooks, the app also includes all of our items from Overdrive's Libby. When you borrow an item from the Overdrive collection in one app, it will appear in both apps. The same thing will happen when you return an item or place a hold or reservation.
While you can check out an unlimited number of items from the Palace Project collection, patrons are still limited to only 3 active borrows from the Overdrive/Libby collection. When you attempt to check out a 4th Overdrive item, the app will instead put a reservation on it.
To check what item a collection is from, click on the title and scroll down to the information section. If the distributor is Overdrive, the item is from our Libby collection. Otherwise it is from the Palace Project collection.
Biblio+
Biblio+ is a streaming platform that partners with libraries to provide their patrons with unlimited access to a highly curated selection of films and television. Their collection includes award winner and nominees, documentaries, foreign films and series, and so much more! Even better, everything is immediately available to stream and there are no limits on how much you can borrow.

Internet access is required when streaming on Biblio+. There is currently no way to download content and watch it offline later.
